“The royal streets are moistened by a creamlike rain,
Green grass can be perceived afar but not near-by,
It is the best time of a year late spring tries in vain,
with its capital veiled in willow everywhere.”
-Han Yu
As we begin to see the first signs of Spring in Beijing, the students of HoK were treated to some marvellous Easter celebrations across the city.
On the morning of March 30th, students and their parents of our Chaoyang Park campus met at the lakeside of Chaoyang Park to celebrate the traditional western festival—Easter. Students wore colourful bunny ears whilst savouring some delicious snacks beside the beautiful lake view and enjoying the fresh Spring weather. After the picnic, students and their parents excitedly participated in some organised games such as “Easter Bonny”, “Colourful Eggs”, “Little Porters”, “Jumping Kangaroos”, “Face Painting”, “Colour of Spring”, and everybody’s favourite, “Easter Egg Hunt”! Easter eggs were hidden amongst the low branches and open spaces around the lake and the students did a great job hunting for and finding them all. Everyone had a great time in Chaoyang Park!
On the same day, the Early Years students and their parents from our Shunyi campus spent a delightful time at Sherwood Horse Riding Club where they had a wonderful opportunity to get close to some animals and experience nature. As well as playing some traditional Easter games like “Easter Bonny”, “Little Porters”, “Jumping Kangaroos “ and “Face to Face Ball Carrier,” students also got the chance to feed some of the little ponies! Finally, the students, together with their parents, searched for Easter eggs they had made themselves. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the hunt. A big‘Thank You’ to all the parents who joined us at the Riding Club and kindly brought us delicious food to share.
While our Kindergarten children celebrated Easter by having a picnic at the riding club, the students in Elementary celebrated the festival by having a Sports Day. This was the first time that House of Knowledge has hosted a Sports Day. The children were very excited about the event and were thrilled by all the different races they could participate in. The day kicked off with races in the playground as well as a jumping race in the gym. The parents who came along were not left out of the excitement either as they were encouraged to join in with a ‘Tug of War’. The day was rounded up with lots of hilariously fun games in which students and parents could participate together, such as the ‘3 legged-race’, ‘blowing a ping pong ball over water cups’ and ‘back to back ball’. The inaugural HoK Sports Day was a huge success, and everyone went home tired but ecstatic with their efforts from the day.
Students from across both House of Knowledge campuses thoroughly enjoyed the Easter celebrations as we welcome the warmer weather and beautiful Beijing blossoms of Spring.
